I
receive many calls from desperate dog owners
who are seeking a magic bullet to solve the
skin problems of their canine friends.
Although nutrition plays a HUGE role in the
solution, more often than not there are
environmental influences that are the
primary cause. This section provides a
checklist of several common sources of
toxins that devastate the health of dogs,
cats, children and adults, followed with
suggestions for remedial action.

Pet Foods. Occasionally the toxicity of
most commercial pet foods reaches such a
high level that pets get extremely sick and
die immediately. This causes an outrage that
makes the news. Unfortunately, these same
"foods" usually poison your pets so slowly
that few people pay attention—except that
they notice the itching, scratching, skin
and coat problems, tumors, organ disease,
cancer ... THIS

VETERINARIANS!
SUGGESTIONS
Be certain that you are feeding only
absolutely non-toxic foods. If you
make your own raw food diets for your
dogs, get the same organic or
naturally-grown vegetables and meats for
them that you buy for yourself. If you
feed commercial foods, buy only those
that guarantee that no fillers are
added, and that they are naturally
preserved only with vitamins.

Flea and Tick Deterrent Products. I

your pets, but please take a moment to
think. How do you suppose they

SUGGESTIONS
Help your pets (and yourself) develop a
natural immunity to insects. We have
learned that parasites stay away from
healthy, balanced life forms, from
plants all the way through humans. Be
certain that digestion is functioning
properly by providing a pro-biotic with

In
the interim, until they exhibit a full

SUGGESTIONS
PRESERVED WOOD should be
removed from the premises and
disposed of as toxic waste. Soil
samples may be taken at interval
distances from where it had been
located and laboratory tested to
determine the extent of the
contamination. If necessary, have
the top soil removed and replaced
with pre-tested, low-toxin top soil.
Heavy gloves and other protective
clothing should be worn while
working with any treated wood.
WOOD DECKING can be replaced
with cedar or redwood, which
contains a natural insect deterrent.
As an alternative, cover the deck
with astro-turf or another exterior
carpeting to isolate the decking

release the heavy metals into the

Chemical Fertilizers and Insecticides.
in addition to the chemicals in commercial
fertilizers, restrictions have been eased to
allow the disposal of toxic materials,
especially heavy-metal laden materials, by
including them in commercial fertilizer
products. It is decisions like this that are
causing many people to think that "EPA"
actually stands for "Environmental Pollution
Agency." Meanwhile, consumers of these
products have permanently poisoned their
soil. And, of course, back to thinking---if
the insecticides kill insects, what do they
do to other life forms?
SUGGESTIONS
CHEMICAL FERTILIZERS AND INSECTICIDES
have already done their damage once
they have been applied. All of the
salt-based chemicals will be carried out
of the soil through heavy watering, but
the heavy metals are pretty much there
to stay. The point here is just stop
using them. There are several great
natural fertilizers on the market, and
these give you better yields, and reduce
or eliminate destructive insects anyway.
Using a good, natural fertilizer, like

no experience to prove or disprove that

Waterborne Toxins. Whatever is in the
